On behalf of the Kolter Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), we would like to welcome you to Kolter Elementary School! We are so excited for another year and look forward to seeing familiar faces and new ones alike! Our unique school is a large and diverse community of teachers and staff and more than 700 students and their families.
What is the PTO?
Our Parent Teacher Organization is is a formal 501(c)3 organization that consists of parents, teachers, school staff and Administration. All current members of the Kolter community are considered members of the PTO and encouraged to register with our website to stay connected.
What does the PTO do?
The Kolter Elementary PTO is committed to enriching the academic and Cultural education of EVERY child at our school. We encourage families to become involved in their children's educational experience. The PTO helps raise funds to support school events, provide educational materials to our teachers, and support all faculty and staff. The PTO coordinates school-wide community events and an exciting line-up of Enrichment Clubs. Your contributions of time and money help our school provide every child with a well-rounded elementary experience: education, fun and community.
Executive Board Positions
All executive board members are expected to attend monthly board meetings and general PTO meetings.
President 2023-2024- Currie Heidt
The President shall liaison with the school administration and HISD, attend all SDMC meetings, facilitate all Board and membership meetings, facilitate training and strategic planning meetings for the Board, write and distribute a bi-weekly newsletter, appoint committee chairs and attend committee meetings as needed, appoint nominating committee chair and assist in volunteer recruitment.
Treasurers 2023-2024 - Andrea Kahle and Erin Troff
Financial Transactions and Record-keeping: Maintain custody of all PTO funds and keeps a full and accurate record of receipts and expenditures. Pay out funds only as authorized by these Bylaws.
Financial Planning and Reporting: Lead the process of preparing an annual budget for the organization. Prepare monthly financial statements to be presented at every meeting of the Membership and at other times when requested by the Board, and an annual report to be presented at the end of each fiscal year. Monthly financial statements to include current balance of PTO funds as well as projected income and actual spending to date.
Processes and Procedures: Develop and maintain forms and guidelines to ensure adequate financial processes are followed by PTO volunteers and for PTO financial activities. Coordinate with event chairs regarding budgets, financial controls and proper fund reporting and tracking.
Regulatory: Oversee the preparation and filing of all applicable tax forms by qualified third parties including IRS Form 990 and quarterly sales tax returns. Ensure that IRS guidelines and sales tax regulations are followed.
Final Annual Report: The final report shall be completed by the Treasurer no later than July 31. The newly elected Treasurer will assume his/her duties following review of the previous Treasurer’s final report.
Secretary 2023-2024 - Daniell Davis
shall take minutes at all General meetings of the organization. Minutes shall be distributed to all members on or before each General Meeting via the PTO website. The Secretary shall take minutes at all Board meetings of the organization and distribute minutes to Board members via email prior to each Board meeting. The Secretary shall remind the committee members of General and/or Board meetings. The Secretary will be responsible for the collection and archiving of documentation submitted by Committee Chairs and shall maintain contact with chairs of the following committees in order to monitor and guide their efforts: School Supplies, Summer Reading, and Box Tops. The Secretary shall assist the president with any necessary correspondences.

VP of Development (fundraising and sponsors) 2023-2024- Anita Bormaster
The VP Development shall (along with the President) develop fundraising goals and strategy for the year (including family and corporate underwriting), communicate with Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer to track progress, regularly report committee updates to the President. As well as oversee the following Chairs in order to monitor and guide their efforts: Book Fair, Family Dinner Night, I Heart Kolter, Gala/Auction, Boosterthon, Grant Writing.
Communication VP 2023-2024- Simret Mathewos
The VP Communications shall craft internal and external messaging goals for the year, assist Committee Chairs in promoting events, maintain all PTO social media accounts, regularly report committee updates to the President, maintain contact with chairs of the following committees in order to monitor and guide their efforts: Website/Technology, Yearbook, and Marquee.
Volunteer Recruitment VP 2023-2024 - Megan Ellis
The VP Volunteer Recruitment shall help find, encourage and train volunteers for various committee and committee chair positions, organize and facilitate Committee Chair Training at the beginning of the school year, ensure that parents sign up through the district VIPS Program, assist committee chairs in finding volunteers for events (including creating a sign up and getting information to parents via room parents), coordinate volunteer appreciation efforts, regularly report committee updates to the President, maintain contact with chairs of the following committees in order to monitor and guide their efforts: Welcoming, Campout, Family Dance, Field Day, Teacher Appreciation, Dad's Club, and Front Desk.

What does the PTO fund?
The PTO raises money to assist learning and fun at Kolter Elementary. Support provided varies from monetary support for curriculum, supplies, school equipment (inside and out), and technology, to volunteer efforts, school events, community support and staff appreciation. Here's a sample of what the Kolter PTO will fund during the 2023-2024 school year:
Assemblies (6 to 8 throughout the year)
Field trips (4 per grade throughout the year)
Yearbooks for the entire School
Grants for every Teacher per Semester throughout the year
Equally funding every class party
All School Wide parties
Maintenance and Facilities for the Grassroom activities
Training for Staff
Teacher Appreciation items throughout the year and daily during Teacher Appreciation Week
School Supplies for any student in need
Field Day Shirts for entire school
Funding for Clubs including but not limited to;
UIL, Triathlon and Art Car. Hopefully more to come this year!
