The Grassroom

For nearly two decades, Kolter Cougars have been learning beyond classroom walls and exploring the natural world around them. The Kolter community came together in 2003 to create an award-winning outdoor space, including a vegetable garden, pond habitat and coastal prairie environment. Whether planting vegetables, looking for tadpoles, or walking among the prairie grasses, Kolter’s outdoor spaces are an integral part of Kolter’s strong tradition of hands-on teaching and learning.

In 2017, Hurricane Harvey demolished the treasured space, but out of the devastation The Grassroom was born. The Grassroom, with its pond, coastal prairie, vegetable garden, orchard and butterfly garden was completed in 2021. Below are photos of Kolter’s garden area over the years!
