VIPS

Before you can volunteer, you must register online with VIPS, Volunteers in Public Schools, at HISD. All volunteers must pass an ANNUAL criminal history background check before they can participate as a volunteer. Go Here

WELCOMING (fall/spring)

Welcome families to Kolter and help in planning, coordination, promotion and execution of the annual Kindergarten Roundup (held in April for all incoming Kindergarteners and their parents), Kindergarten Playdate (August), Snow Cone Social (August) and First Day of School Coffee.

SPIRIT NIGHT

Help to identify local restaurants willing to participate, communicate with restaurant owners, create and distribute Spirit Night fliers, ensure collection of funds, thank restaurants appropriately. There is one Spirit Night per month for the school year.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES (fall/spring)

Support chair in working with faculty to determine each grade’s needs for school supplies for the following year and help to secure bids on supplies, coordinate preorders, and organize volunteers for distribution at the start of the new school year.

ROOM PARENT

Serve as main communicator of all important PTO information to parents in your child’s class and coordinate classroom volunteers for teachers as needed. Touch base with teacher throughout school year to best support classroom needs, encourage parent participation in PTO events, and organize class gift for teacher at the end of the year.

I HEART KOLTER

Assist in planning and encouraging participation in our annual family giving campaign. This two-month campaign is the PTO’s primary source of unrestricted contributed income and provides funds for sustaining PTO spending on behalf of the school.

THE GRASSROOM (Garden/Prairie/Pond)

Work with the team to promote and facilitate the implementation of “The Grassroom” plans. Want to get your hands dirty? Work with Kolter-parent Pilar Hernandez to oversee the maintenance and general wellness of our Kolter garden and prairie habitats (over time) and team-up with teachers to provide the best outdoor learning experience for our students.

GALA AUCTION (winter)

Solicit silent and live auction donations, pick-up donations, assist in putting items into database and software, help with display of items day of event, and work with chairs to follow-up after event on item delivery.

BOOSTERTHON (spring)

A two-week pledge-based fundraiser where students seek out per-lap before lacing up their running shoes for a fun-run! Proceeds from the fundraiser go to support designated projects, like the outdoor learning spaces. Assist chair in pep rally, coordination with teachers, prize delivery, and preparations for fun-run.

BOOK FAIR (fall)

A three-day book sale with associated events; funds raised support and improve the Kolter library. Assist in planning, gathering teacher wish lists, decorations, and coordination with Scholastic.
